SyncZone
TheSyncZoneparameter
determineswhichzoneariffwillsyncto.Youcanchoosetosynctoa
rifforarpeggioinaspecificzonebysettingSyncZonetoRiff1–16orArp1‐16,andthecurrent
riffwillalwayssynctotherifforarpeggiointhesetzone.Forexample,if
youhaveadrumriff
inzone1andabassriffinzone2,youmayalwayswantthebassriffinzone2tosynctothe
drumriffinzone1.InthiscaseyouwouldsetthebassriffSyncZonetoRiff1.
Youmaywant
tohavealittlemorefreedomandnotbetiedtothedrumriffasthemain
“timekeeper.”Maybeyouwanttostartwiththebassriffandhavethedrumriffstartlater.In
thiscaseyouwouldsetSyncZonetoFirstRiff.Av.Withthissetting,theriffwilllookfor
thefirst
availablerifftosyncto.Soifboththedrumriffandthebassriffhavethisparametersetto
FirstRiff.Av.,theriffthatisstartedfirstwillbethemaster.Ifthebassriffstartsfirst,thedrum
riffwillseethatasthefirstavailableriff
tosynctoandwilldoso.Ifthedrumriffisstartedfirst,
thebassriffwillseethatasthefirstavailablerifftosynctoandwilldoso.This canbevery
handyifyouhavemultipleriffsandwanttodosomeliveremixing;you
couldhavethedrums
dropout,and—aslongisthereisariffplaying—theywillsyncbackupwhentriggeredagain.
YoucanalsochooseFirstArp.Av.,whichbehavesthesamewayasFirstRiff.Av.,butmakesyour
rifflookforthefirstavailablearpeggiatortosyncto.AsettingofMain
Seq.willsynctheriffto
thesongcurrentlyloadedinSongmode.YoucanselectasonginSongmode,thenplayitfrom
setupmodewiththefrontpanelPlay/Pausebutton.(Doingthistemporarilyreplacestheprograms
inyoursetup’szoneswiththeprogramusedforeachchannel
inthesong,soit’sbesttomakeasetupthat
usesthesameprogramsasyoursongonthesameMIDIchannels.Ifyouplanonsyncingriffswitha
song,itmaybeeasiertostartbycreatingasetup,thenrecordingthesetupintoasong.SeeRecording

availableriff,arpeggiator,orsongfromSongmode.
Note:IfyouhavemultipleriffsorarpeggiatorsalreadyplayingwhenusingFirstRiff.Av.,FirstArp.Av.,
orFirstAvail.forthecurrentriff,
thecurrentriffwillsynctotherifforarpeggiatorofthelowest
numberedzonethathasarifforarpeggiatorplaying.
SyncType
TheSyncTypeparameterallowsyoutochoosehowyourriffwillsynctootherriffs,
arpeggiators,andSongs(dependingonyoursettings madefortheSyncZoneparameter.)With
SyncTypesettoNone,yourriffwillstartplayingassoonasitistriggered.Itwillnotsyncto
anything.WithSyncTypesettoDownBeat,ifthereisalreadysomethingplayingtosyncto,the
currentriffwillwaitforthedownbeatofthenextmeasurebeforestarting;so,
youcantriggerthe
rifftostartaheadoftime,andhaveitstartinsyncatthedownbeatofthenextmeasure.If
Syncingtoanarpeggiator,seeNumBeats on page 7‐46fordetailsonchangingwhenanarpeggiator’s
downbeatwilloccur.WithSyncTypesettoAnyBeat,ifthere
isalreadyasomethingplayingto
syncto,theriffwillwaitonlyuntilthenextbeat.Dependingonwhenyoutriggertheriff,itwill
syncup,butitmaybeonanupbeatoradownbeat.
WithSyncTypesettoDownBeatWait,theriffwillwaitforthe downbeatof
thenextmeasureto
start.ThedifferencefromDownBeatisthatifthereisnothingplayingtosyncto,theriffwillnot
start.Thiscanbeusefulifyouwanttostartmultipleriffssyncedtooneriff.Youcouldhavea
bassriffsettoDownBeatWait,forinstance,
andtriggertheriffwhilenootherriffsarerunning.
Assoonasyoustartanotherriff,thebassriffwillstartplayingaswell(providedthatitissetto
synctoanotherriffortothefirstavailableriff.)Ifanotherriffisalreadyrunning,
DownBeatWaitbehavesjust
likeDownBeat.
