Editing Samples
The TRIM Page
TheTRIMpageletsyousettheStart,AlternativeStart,Loop,andEndpointsofthecurrent
sample.ThetoplineindicatestheZoomandGainsettings.ThisGainsettingdoesn’taffectthe
amplitudeofthesample,justtheviewinthedisplay.Therightsideofthetoplinedisplays
the
rootnumberofthesample.Ifthesampleispartofagroupofsampleroots,youcanusethe
Chan/Layerbuttonstoscrollthrougheachsampleinthegroup.
ThefourparametersonthispageareStart(S),AlternativeStart(A),Loop(L),andEnd(E).
Selectingthese
parametersandadjustingtheirvaluesenablesyoutomodifyhowthesample
playsbackwhennotesaretriggered.Eachoftheseparameterpointsareexpressedinindividual
samples.Forexample,aonesecondsampleatasamplerateof44,100Hzwouldhave44,100
valuesavailabletoadjustforeachofthese
parameters.
Thereisaverticallineinthecenterofthedisplayindicatingtheplacementofthecurrent
parameterinthesamplewaveform.Thesamplewaveformwillmoverelativetothelinewhen
eachparameterisselectedoradjusted.Thelineremainsinthecenterofthedisplay,and the
waveform
shiftstoindicatethenewpositionofthepoint.Eachparametercanbeadjustedwith
the‐/+buttons,theAlphaWheel,orthealphanumericbuttonpadfollowedbytheEnterbutton.
TheStart(S)pointdeterminesthebeginningofthecurrentsample.Youcantruncatethe
beginningofthesampleby
increasingthevalueoftheStart(S)parameter.Youmightdothisto
removesilenceatthebeginningofasample,ortoremovesomeoralloftheattack.Youcan’t
decreasetheStartpointofsamplesbelowzero.
TheAlternativeStart(A)parameterletsyousetasecond,
optionalstartorendpointforthe
currentsample.TheAlternativeStartwillbeusedwhentheAltSwitchparameteronthe
KEYMAPpageissettoOn,orwhenit’ssettoaspecificcontrolsourceandthatcontrolsourceis
generatingavalueofmorethan+.5.(For
example,ifyouassignMWheelasthecontrolsource
fortheAltSwitchparameter,theAlternativeStartwillbeusedwhentheModWheel—or
whatevercontrolsourceyouhavesettosendMWheel—isaboveitshalfwaypoint.)The
AlternativeStartcanbesetbefore,after,oratthesamepointas
theStartorEnd.
IfyousettheAlternativeStartaftertheEnd,youcanextendtheplayofloopedsamples.
Normally,loopedsampleswillplaythroughtotheEnd,thenwillloopbacktotheLooppoint,
andcontinueloopinglikethisuntilthenoteisreleased,whentheygo
intotheirnormalrelease.
IftheAlternativeStartissetaftertheEnd,loopedsampleswillloopinthesamewaywhilenotes
aresustained.Assoonasyoureleasethenotes,however,thesampleswillplaythroughtothe
AlternativeStartpointbeforegoingintorelease.
TheLoop(L)parameter
setsthebeginningoftheloopedportionofthecurrentsample.The
LoopcanbesetatanypointbeforetheEnd,includingbeforetheStartandAlternativeStart.If
youtrytomoveitaftertheEnd,theEndwillmovewithit.Whenyou’ resettingaloopsegment
forasample,youshouldadjustboththeLoopandEndparameterssothatthetwoendsofthe
waveformwouldmeet(orcomeascloseaspossible)whentheloopoccurs.Youcandothis
visuallybyzoominginclosetothewaveform(untilitbecomesasingleline,)then
adjustingthe
LoopandEndparametersofthewaveformuntilboth endsarethesamedistanceaboveorbelow
