The LFO Page
LFOsarelowfrequencyoscillators.LFOsareusedtoautomatethemodulationofaparameter
basedontheshapeandfrequencyofanaudiowaveform.YoullusetheLFOpagetodefinethe
behaviorofthetwoLFOsavailabletoeachlayer.LFOsareperiodic(repeating)controlsources.
Thebasicelements
aretherate,whichdefineshowfrequentlytheLFOrepeats,andshape,
whichdefinesthewaveformofthemodulationsignalitgenerates.
WiththePC3LE,youcansetupperandlowerlimitsoneachLFO’srate,andassignacontrol
sourcetochangetheLFO’srateinrealtime,ifyouwish.
Becauseofitsperiodicnature,theLFOisperfectforcreatingeffectslikevibrato(cyclicvariation
inpitch)andtremolo(cyclicvariationinamplitude).Whenyou’ reedit ingLFOs,oranycontrol
source,rememberthatitmustbeassignedtocontrolsomeparameterbeforeyoullhearthe
effectsofyouredits.
LFO1
isalwayslocal,meaningthatit’striggeredwitheachNoteOnevent,andruns
independentlyforeachnoteinthelayer.LFO2islocalbydefault,butcanbemadeglobal.Thisis
doneontheCOMMONpage,bysettingtheGlobalsparametertoOn,whichcausesLFO2,
ASR2,FUN2
andFUN4alltobecomeglobal.Globalcontrolsuniformlyaffecteverynoteineach
layer.
Minimum Rate
ThisistheslowestrateatwhichtheLFOruns.WhenitsRateControlissettoOFF,orwhenthe
controlsourceassignedtoitisatitsminimum,theLFOrunsatits
minimumrate.Aspreviously
mentioned,thevalues1/4note,1/8note,1/8triplet,and1/16notesynctheMinimumRatewith
thePC3LE’ssystemtempo.Ofcourse,ifyouchoosetotemposyncyourLFO,thentheLFOrate
isfixed,andyoucan specifyneitherMaximumRatenorRateControl.
