ThePC3LEcanstoremoreprogramsthantheMIDIprogramchangespecificationcanhandle
(MIDIletsyousendprogramchangenumbersfrom0to127or1to128only).Sowe’vedesigned
asystemthatmakesprogramselectionmoreflexible.Thisistruewhetheryou’ reselecting
programsfromthePC3LE’s
frontpanel,orviaMIDI.
ThePC3L Egivesyouthousandsof programchangenumberstoworkwith.Theseareorganized
into16“banks”of128each,startingatprogram0.Forexample,bank1containsprograms0‐127,
bank2containsprograms128‐255,bank3containsprograms256‐383,etc.
BecausethePC3LE’s
programsstartatprogram0,eachprogram’sprogramchangenumberisitsobjectIDnumber
plus1.ThePC3LEcanuseseveraldifferentformatsforinterpretingprogramchange
commands.ThevaluefortheProgChgModeparameterontheRECEIVEpagedetermineswhich
formatisused,andtheone
youshouldselectdependsonyourMIDIsystem.
Ifyouexpectyou’llalwayschangeprogramsfromyourPC3LE’sfrontpanel,selectingprograms
isassimpleasenteringtheprogram’sobjectIDonthealphanumericpad,andpressingEnter.
EvenprogramnumbersabovetheusualMIDIlimitof127canbeselected
thisway.
Extended Program Changes
Ifyou’ recontrollingyourPC3LEfromaMIDIdevicethatcanhandletheMIDIController0or32
program‐changeformat,you’llhavethegreatestflexibilityifyousettheProgChgType
parametertoavalueofExtended.
Whenyou’reusingtheextendedprogramchangeformat,thendependingonthevalueof
the
BankSelectparameterontheReceive(RECV)pageinMasterMode,thePC3LEwillrespondto
eitherMIDIController0or32programchangecommandsforbankselection,andstandard
programchangecommandsforprogramchangeswithinthecurrentbank.Differentvalueshave
differentresults,asshowninthefollow ing
table:
Program Change Type For Use With:
Extended Program changes in “banks” of 128 ID #s. This is for connecting a
generic MIDI device as a controller device.
