The Setup Editor
Unipolarmeansthatafterplayinguptotheshiftlimit,theArpeggiatorbeginsshiftingnotesin
theoppositedirection,untilitreachestheoriginalpitch,whereitreversesagain.Todet ermine
thenextnotewhenitreachestheshiftlimit,theArpeggiatorcalculatestheintervalbetweenthe
shiftlimitandwhat
thenextnotewouldbeiftheshiftlimitweren’ tthere.Itthenplaysthenote
thatisthecalculatedintervallowerthanthelastnotebeforetheshiftlimit.Thesamething
happensinreversewhenthearpeggiatednotesgetbackdowntotheoriginalpitch.The
followingtable
makesthiseasiertovisualizebyshowingtheresultofarpeggiatingonenote
(C4)inUnipolarmode,withShiftAmountsetto3STandvariousvaluesforShiftLimit.
BipolarstartsoutthesamewayasUnipolar,butduringdownwardnoteshifting,itcontinues
pasttheoriginalpitchuntilit
hitstheshiftlimitintheoppositedirection,whereitreversesagain.
FloatResaddsabitofapparentrandomnesstotheprocess.“Float”meansthatwhenthe
Arpeggiatorreachestheshiftlimit,itresets—butnottoitsoriginalpitchaswithplainReset.
LikeUnipolarandBipolar,itlooksat
thefirstnotethatwouldexceedtheshiftlimit,and
calculatestheintervalbetweenthatnoteandtheshiftlimit.Itthenrestartsthecycleoflatched
notes,transposingtheentirecyclebytheintervalitjustcalculated,thenshiftingeach
subsequentcyclebythevalueofShiftAmount,until
itreachestheshiftlimitagain.
Here’saverysimpleexample.SupposethattheonlynoteintheArpeggiatorcycleis C4,Shift
Amountis 4(athird),andShiftLimitis 7(sonoteswon’tgetshiftedaboveG4).TheArpeggiator
playsC4,thenE4.ThenextnoteshouldbeG

calculatesthedifferencebetweenthatG

4andtheshiftlimit(G4):onesemitone.Itaddsthat
differencetotheoriginalstartingnote(C4)andplaysthatnotenext—C

FloatUniusesthesameconceptandappliesittoUnipolarmode:whentheArpeggiatorreaches
theshiftlimit,itcalculatesthedifferencebetweenthenextnote
andthelimit,andtransposesthe
nextcycleofnotesdownbythatinterval,thenshiftseachsubsequentcycledownuntilitreaches
theoriginalpitch.FloatBipissimilartoFloatUni,butthedownwardshiftlimitisn’tthe
originalpitch,it’sthenegativeoftheShiftLimitvalue.
